MÁRCIO SANTOS

With over twenty years of distinguished experience in communication, Márcio dos Santos has established himself as a leading figure in the field. His remarkable portfolio includes coverage of major global events such as the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001, the military revolution in Venezuela, and the catastrophic hurricanes Irene, Sandy, and Katrina in the United States.

Márcio has also been a prominent voice at the prestigious automobile awards in Daytona Beach and has delivered compelling coverage of soccer at Red Bull Stadium. His extensive work with the United Nations further underscores his expertise.

Beyond these accomplishments, Márcio has made invaluable contributions to the Portuguese and Brazilian communities through his exemplary work at SPT Television, accompanied by fruitful collaborations with SIC Internacional and TVI over the past two decades. His commitment to impactful storytelling and deep understanding of cultural dynamics makes him a vital asset in the world of communication.

RICARDO DURÃES

Ricardo Durães is a distinguished journalist with an impressive track record, having contributed to notable publications such as 24 Horas and Luso Americano newspapers. He has also collaborated with the Lusa Agency and Diário de Notícias, showcasing his versatility in the field.

On television, he made his mark as a key figure in the Especial Informação segment for SPT – Portuguese Television, captivating audiences with his insightful commentary.
He has skillfully hosted engaging programs such as Ronda Comunitária, Em Foco, and Canto Direto, solidifying his reputation as a trusted voice in the media landscape. His expertise in foreign policy often brings him to the forefront as a commentator on SIC Notícias.

In radio, Durães is well-remembered as the charismatic host of “As Manhãs do Ricky” on Rádio Clube Português, where his engaging style resonated with listeners. Beyond journalism, he demonstrated his leadership skills as a Senior Operations and Training Manager at DISH for 14 years. He holds an MBA with a concentration in International Business and Communications.

ANGÉLICA PINTO

Angélica Pinto, a talented journalist hailing from Viana do Castelo, proudly holds a degree in Communication Sciences from the Fernando Pessoa University in Porto. She further honed her skills with a postgraduate degree at the School of Social Communication, specializing in marketing and digital media.

With her fresh and vibrant outlook, Angélica is poised to infuse “Luso-Americano Magazine” and “Às 7 em Ponto” with a dynamic, youthful perspective.

Since her recent move from Portugal, she is enthusiastically embracing her journey of integration into the local Portuguese community, ready to share her unique insights and experiences.

CINTHYA PENAFIEL

Cinthya Penafiel is a journalism graduate from Laica Vicente Rocafuerte University in Ecuador, known for her curiosity, dedication, and strong critical thinking skills. She approaches every challenge with thorough research and a belief that no problem is too complex to solve. Her ability to uncover root causes and craft creative solutions sets her apart as a thoughtful and determined communicator.

Her professional journey is deeply connected to her passion for music, which enhances her charisma and unique communication style. For four years, she was the voice of Pica-Pica on Rádio Clube Português, a popular program that celebrated global perspectives and diversity. Her engaging presence and multilingual abilities helped her connect with a wide audience and share meaningful stories.

In addition to her experience in radio, Cinthya has worked extensively in public administration communication. At WNN, she leads Spanish programming as the editorial head and anchors Noticias al Día. Her commitment to impactful storytelling and breaking conventions continues to shape her influence in the field of media and communication.

JANAINA ALVES

Janaina Alves is a dedicated educator and journalist with degrees in History and Journalism from the Federal University of Espírito Santo and Montclair State University. Her academic background gives her a strong foundation in historical analysis and effective communication, allowing her to explore complex topics with clarity and depth.

Motivated by a deep interest in the intersection of history, politics, and economics, Janaina earned her Master’s degree in History and Education from Grand Canyon University. She began her teaching career in Union and now proudly serves on the Humanities team at East Side High School in Newark, where she teaches History and Economics.

In addition to her work as an educator, Janaina is also a journalist for WNN Brasil News. Her reporting focuses on stories that impact the community, blending her academic knowledge with current events. Her ability to connect historical and economic perspectives with present-day issues makes her a powerful voice in both education and journalism.

LÚCIA ANTUNES

Lúcia Raposo Antunes was born in Luanda, Angola, in 1972 and moved to the Aveiro region in Portugal as a child. She earned her degree and Master’s in Education, specializing in English and Portuguese Teaching, from the University of Aveiro in 1996. She taught for 17 years in Portugal, primarily in the city of Leiria.
In 2013, she moved to the United States, where she began teaching Portuguese in community schools before joining East Side High School in 2014.

There, she also serves as a College Board Instructor, mentor for new teachers, advisor for Portuguese student organizations, and member of the official translation team. She contributes to curriculum development and provides training for the World Languages department. Additionally, she taught at Kean University for two years as an adjunct professor.

Outside of education, Mrs. Antunes was a presenter for Seabra Portuguese Television (SPT) and is currently part of the Worldwide News Network (WNN)/LusoAmericano TV team. She actively participates in the Portugal Day organizing committee in Newark and is a strong advocate for the Portuguese language as both a native and heritage language. Her greatest inspiration is her family, and she enjoys reading and traveling with loved ones.
